Demolition Man (1993)

Director: Marco Brambilla

Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes

Run Time: 110 mins

Certificate: 15

Plot Outline: An ex-cop is freed from 36 years of forced cryogenic hibernation to help catch a criminal who was accidentally released from similar imprisonment. Unfortunately for the cop, the LA of the future is a society of peaceful, non-violent people and crimes are very rare - they have no idea how to handle one of Earth's most dangerous criminals.

The Review: I can usually stick trashy action films with big stars but this was a hard and bitter pill to swallow. It's supposed to be humorous like any good Arnie flick but I hardly laughed. The one-liners are tiresome and unoriginal (such as Stallone saying "you're on TV" while smashing Wesley Snipes over the head with the said object). Arnie can pull off the one-liners - Stallone can't. The action scenes are nothing special and are boring for the most (lots of generic explosions and people flying through the air). Wesley Snipes is the only redeeming factor as the bad guy but he isn't given enough screen time. He does kick a lot of ass though and you wouldn't want to screw around with him. But it seems even he isn't giving 100% during the scenes he is present in. It's like he knew that since the film sucked, he could do what he wanted and still be the best part of the film. Stallone is his usual wooden self with bulging muscles, stilted dialogue and a terrible sense of comedy. As I've said earlier, he can't do the one-liners and sounds stupid doing them. Sandra Bullock is lovely to look at but extremely annoying. I just get the feeling that everything, including the acting, seems so taped together without any cohesion or sense of direction.

Final Verdict: Demolition Man was a bad experience to watch. No wonder Stallone's career has suffered more lows than highs with pieces of crap like this.
